INTRODUCTION

The bible is God’s letter to His beloved. We can’t claim to be born again as believers and not read the manual that will guide us to live a successful Christian life on earth and glorious eternity in God’s presence. Just as eating of food is important to our physical bodies in order to nourish it, so also is reading of the bible to our spiritual being in order to deepen a personal relationship with our maker and to guide against losing out completely in the heavenly race. Reading of the bible is very important and even God admonished Joshua to always read and meditate on the book of the law twice daily. The Bible contains all the instruction that we need to come to a life of true purity and righteousness. It teaches us how we can follow Christ in truth. The Bible’s exhortations, guidelines, commandments and encouragement give us very concrete and infallible insight into God’s will for us in every aspect of life.

The Bible contains so many heroes of faith, reading it can give us insight on how to live a life that is pleasing to God in all areas. The Bible is so rich that it covers all aspects of life, and no Christian can be successful in all areas of life if reading and meditating on the bible is neglected. God speaks to His beloved believers through the word of God and as a believer, how will you hear Him if you don’t read or spend time in His presence? 

God is a spirit and those who are willing to serve Him must serve Him in spirit and truth and how do you serve someone, if you neglect to fellowship with Him in the place of prayer and reading His words. Importance of reading the bible can’t be overemphasized and the benefits are numerous for a believer. We have seen in the bible how God helped those who study the laws of God and do them and even today, we have seen successful Christians who yielded to reading and abiding with the commandments of the bible. Reading the bible is important and, in this article, we will be considering 25 reasons for the bible’s importance.

1. TO KNOW ABOUT GOD’S CHARACTER: Romans 10:17

When you read the bible as a believer, you learn the ways and character of God and that will guide you to have godly character and prevent you from exhibiting the fruits that are not of the spirit. It helps us to know God more.

2. TO IMITATE GOD: Ephesians 5:1

Reading the bible helps us to know God and be good followers of Him in all areas. It will help in all areas of life to want to measure up to things that will be always pleasing to God.

Reading the bible helps us to spend more time with God and knowing His ways, thereby developing a deeper relationship with God.

Reading the bible helps us to be able to teach the word of God to other believers, teaches us on how to relate with other believers, give biblical advice and bear each other’s burden.

Reading and meditating on the bible help us to strengthen our faith and allow us to defend it when the need arises or when faced with false teachers or doctrines.
