INTRODUCTION

Working in God’s vineyard refers to the act of serving God in whatever capacity we can, and spreading the gospel message of Jesus Christ. It involves participating in a variety of ministry activities such as evangelism, missions, teaching, worship, visiting, follow up and prayer. Working in God’s vineyard is not only a responsibility, but also a privilege and a blessing for Christians. As Christians, we are called to be God’s coworkers and to actively participate in His work on Earth.

Ministry activities like cleaning the church, caring for the widows and orphans with our resources, teaching in the Sunday school, ushering congregants into the church auditorium, etc are all ways we can work in the vineyard of God. a lot of people tend to think that only the pastors are workers in God’s vineyard. However, every genuinely born again child of God has been called into service in His vineyard. He has given each of several capacities according to the measure of grace in us. We must therefore not be redundant with the grace He has bestowed on us.

This article seeks to highlight the various benefits in working in God’s vineyard. May the Holy Spirit enlighten our hearts to have a deep understanding of this kingdom truth.

BENEFITS OF WORKING IN GOD’S VINEYARD

The following are some of the benefits of working for God in His vineyard:

Fulfillment and purpose

One of the greatest benefits of working in God’s vineyard is the sense of fulfillment and purpose it provides. When we serve God and participate in His purpose, we feel a great feeling of fulfillment because we know we are making a difference in the world. “You did not choose me,” Jesus remarked in John 15:16, “but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

Spiritual Growth:

Working in God’s vineyard also aids our spiritual growth. We expand our awareness of God’s love and create a stronger connection with Him when we serve others and proclaim the gospel. We can also use our spiritual gifts and talents to help others and advance God’s kingdom. “There are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them,” Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 12:4-7. There are several types of service, but the Lord is the same. There are various types of job, but it is the same God at work in all of them and in everyone. The manifestation of the Spirit is now given to each individual for the common good.”

Protection:

Working in God’s vineyard also gives protection from the enemy’s attacks. Paul writes in Ephesians 6:11-12, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the devil’s schemes.” For our war is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and spiritual forces of evil in the higher realms.” Consequently, by working in God’s vineyard, we empower ourselves with spiritual armor that shields us against the attacks  of the enemy.

Eternal Rewards:

Working in God’s vineyard comes with the assurance that we will get eternal rewards in heaven. According to the Bible, God blesses people who truly serve Him. Jesus says in Matthew 16:27, “For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then He will reward each person according to what they have done.” Similarly, Paul states in 1 Corinthians 3:14: “If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.” Working in God’s vineyard, then, guarantees us eternal blessings in heaven.

Joy and peace:

Another benefit or reward of working in God’s vineyard is that it offers us both joy and peace. When we serve others and share the gospel, we get to witness lives being transformed by God’s love. We also have the assurance that we are carrying out God’s mandate. Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Serving God in His vineyard brings a kind of serenity which is better experienced than imagined.

Blessings:

Working in God’s vineyard brings loads of blessings not only to us but also to those around us. In Malachi 3:10, God says, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” Therefore, by serving in God’s vineyard, we position ourselves to receive blessings from God.
