Early Ministration Of Jesus Christ And Lesson To Learn

The gospels present John the Baptist’s ministry as the precursor to that of Jesus and the Baptism of Jesus as marking the beginning of Jesus’ ministry.

The early ministry of Jesus begins when, according to the gospel of Matthew, He goes back to Galilee from the Judean desert, where He was tempted after His 40 days of fasting, and thereafter rebuffed Satan. In this early period, Jesus preaches around Galilee and, in Matthew 4:18-20, His first disciples encounter Him, begin to travel with Him and eventually form the core of the early Church.

EARLY MINISTRATION OF JESUS CHRIST 

In preparing Jesus for His early ministration, He came from Galilee to Jordan in order to be baptized by John the Baptist. John tries to forbid Him, saying he should be the one going to Jesus for baptism. But Jesus answered him in Matthew 3:15 that, it is necessary for Him to be baptized in order to fulfill all righteousness. After his baptism, a voice came from heaven endorsing Jesus Christ as “the beloved Son of God in whom He is well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)

After the baptism, Jesus was led to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. There in the wilderness, Jesus fasted for forty days and nights. Then Satan came to tempt Him with three offers of the world, but Jesus on each occasion, countered Satan’s temptation with the word of God. Then the devil left Him, and angels came to minister to him. (Matthew 4:1-11)

Jesus Christ first began to preach in Capernaum saying, “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

JESUS CALLS THE FIRST DISCIPLES

As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him. (Matthew 4:18-22)

JESUS MINISTERS TO CROWDS OF PEOPLE

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought to him all the sick, those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he cured them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan. (Matthew 23-25)

JESUS’ SERMON ON THE MOUNT

This period in the ministration of Jesus Christ includes the Sermon on the Mount, which covers chapters 5, 6 and 7 of the Gospel of Matthew. It is the first of the Five Discourses of Matthew and is the longest piece of teaching from Jesus Christ in the New Testament. It sums up many of the moral teachings of Jesus Christ and includes the Beatitudes, which are expressed as eight blessings in the Sermon on the Mount and the widely recited Lord’s Prayer. The Beatitudes present the highest ideals of the teachings of Jesus on mercy, spirituality and compassion.

JESUS’ TEACHING IN THE PLAIN

The Sermon on the Plain is recorded in the Gospel of Luke, and is expressed as four blessings which are followed by four woes which mirror the blessings. Jesus Christ also preached on love for our enemies, judging others and knowing a tree by its fruits. He rounded up the teaching on the Plain by talking about the wise and the foolish builders, relating it to what we do with the word of God that we hear. (Luke 6:17-49)

JESUS’ FIRST MIRACLE 

The first miracle of Jesus Christ was performed at Cana of Galilee where He was invited together with His disciples to a marriage feast. His mother was also present at the marriage. When the wine got finished, His mother came to Him, saying “they have no wine”. His mother told the servants to do whatsoever Jesus asked them to do. Jesus asked the servants to fill the water pots with water, and they were filled to the brim. Then He commanded them to draw out from the pots and take it to the governor of the feast, and behold the water had become wine! (not just wine, but good wine!)

This was the beginning of the miracles of Jesus, and the disciples believed on Him. (John 2:1-11)

JESUS WAS REJECTED IN HIS HOMETOWN 

The return of Jesus Christ to Galilee follows the arrest of John the Baptist. The early teachings of Jesus result in His rejection at His hometown when in Luke 4:16–30 Jesus says in a Synagogue: “No prophet is acceptable in his own country” and the people reject Him.

In this early period, Jesus’ reputation begins to spread throughout Galilee. In Mark 1:21–28 and Luke 4:31–37, Jesus goes to Capernaum, where people are “astonished at His teaching; for His word was with authority”, in the Exorcism at the Synagogue in Capernaum episode, which is followed by healing the mother of Peter’s wife.

LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THE EARLY MINISTRATION OF JESUS CHRIST

There are lots of lessons to learn from Jesus’ early ministration. Some of them are:

1. Commit your ways and ministry to God in prayers. Jesus Christ started His ministry by praying and fasting for forty days and nights. This enabled Him to withstand the devil when he came to tempt Him.
2. Do not jump protocols, irrespective of your status. Even Jesus Christ in His majesty and splendor insisted to be baptized by John the Baptist.
3. There is nobody that is beyond temptation by the devil. He tempted Jesus Christ the son of God.
4. Fasting alone will not prevent anyone from being tempted, it is the quality of God’s word in you that will help you overcome.
5. No matter how illogical or unreasonable an instruction from God may seem, always obey, because in the obedience of such instruction lies your miracle, (the miracle at Cana of Galilee).
