Subscribe NowWhen man was created, he was created in the image of God in order to establish the kingdom of God here on earth as it is done in heaven but man fell at the garden of Eden and since then, man inherited sinful nature at birth. All the thought of man was evil and despite all the Prophets and commandments God used, man still continued to wallow in sin and make the earth too bad. God hates sin but loves the people he created. God had to come up with a plan to show man how to obey God and make good choices, so he sent his son, Jesus Christ to come into the world to do that. Jesus Christ, the son of God came down from heaven to redeem mankind after the fall of man at the garden of Eden. His birth was spoken of by Prophet Isaiah in the old testament and he was conceived of the Holy Spirit by Virgin Mary after Angel Gabriel appeared in order not to carry the sinful nature of man. During his birth, wise men located his place of birth when his star was sighted in the sky. An angel appeared to the Shepherds watching their flocks at night in that city to announce the birth of Jesus Christ to show that Jesus was a special child with purpose.
Once Jesus Christ attained the age to start his purpose, he began to teach the words of God to the people and told them the reason he was on earth which was to reconcile man back to God. He often spoke about his death and that he was going to rise up on the third day. The death of Jesus Christ was important but without the resurrection, it has no meaning. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith which showcases the fact that Jesus Christ is indeed the son of the living God. Without the resurrection, the belief in God’s saving grace through Jesus is destroyed. When Jesus died on the cross, it represented the fact that we as Christians are now dead to sin and that the power of sin over mankind has been destroyed and his resurrection signifies that we are now alive in Christ Jesus and eternal life is guaranteed once we believed and accepted Jesus Christ. When Jesus rose from the dead, he confirmed his work of atonement, redemption, reconciliation and salvation. The resurrection of Jesus is the greatest miracle that ever occurred and is the one best supported by eyewitness testimony. It proves Jesus’ claims and teachings are true. There are biblical lessons from the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and in this article, we will be learning some of them.
- OVERCOMING SIN: 2 Corinthians 5:21
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ taught us that as Christians, we have been given the power to overcome sin. Jesus bore all our sins on his body at the cross of Calvary to give us righteousness. Through his death and resurrection, God’s power is being renewed in mankind and at the mention of Jesus’ name, all devices of the agents of darkness are destroyed. Not only do we have power to overcome sin, we also can use his name to overcome evil agendas of the wicked.
2. OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORD: 2 Corinthians 5:15
Jesus’ death and resurrection teaches us he has bought us with his blood and we can’t afford to live anyhow. We are to obey God’s word and allow Jesus to control us because we are his. During baptism, which symbolizes the death of Jesus teaches that we are dead to sin that separates us from God and when we were raised up from the water which symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus which also teaches that we now have a new life which sets us apart from sin.
3. OPPORTUNITY TO APPROACH GOD DIRECTLY: It was after the death of Jesus Christ that the temple veil was torn from top to bottom which teaches us that we can now approach the throne of grace and speak to God directly through Jesus Christ. We were given liberty to develop a close relationship with God without having to go through any Prophet. His resurrection teaches us that we also have the opportunity to proclaim goodness about God’s love to mankind.
4. FORGIVENESS OF SIN: Romans 5:10
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ reconciled us back to God. We received the forgiveness of sins through this. Our salvation was sealed on the cross of Calvary and manifested after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Rising from the dead gave Jesus a final victory over Satan. It also teaches us to forgive those that offend us, we should not be bitter against anyone but dwell in love with others.
5. TO REDIRECT THE DESTINY OF MAN: After the fall of man at the garden of Eden, man’s destiny was disrupted from what God intended it to be but the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ redirected the destiny of man especially the believers. Since God raised Jesus, we are assured there will be harvest in which we will all be raised through the same power. Secondly, his resurrection teaches that we will be raised and judged through Jesus. His death and resurrection also teaches that there are rewards for righteousness and how to live daily in our Christian walk with God.
6. THE GRAVE IS NOT THE END: John 14:1-3
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ teaches us that the grave is not the final destination of mankind. His resurrection proves that Jesus has the power to live up to his claim when he said he went to prepare a place for us and that he is coming to take us, his children to himself and we will dwell with him. It also teaches us that this life is not all there is and that any struggles now will be forgotten in the glory that is to come.
CONCLUSION
Jesus’ death and resurrection is the reason we Christians are justified and not be weary down with sins because we have power over it. His death and resurrection is the core reason of the gospel and the Christian faith we preached today because no other religion can boast of a risen savior. The fact that Jesus rose from the grave gives evidence for faith and hope for salvation and eternal destinies in God. Forgiveness of sin is guaranteed and eternal life is secured in God after life on earth.
