30 PRAYERS AGAINST SUICIDAL THOUGHTS

2 CORINTHIANS 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

In 2016, World Health Organization (WHO) reported that Nigeria has highest suicide rate in Africa, and it stands sixth globally. In the same report, WHO pointed out that across the world one person dies of suicide every 40 seconds. The report puts the global estimates of suicidal death at around 800,000 people annually. WHO said in Nigeria, 17,710 cases of suicide were recorded in 2016 at all ages. Out of these numbers of cases, 8,410 were females while 9,300 were males.  

Terrible life challenges and pains can make people see suicide as the best solution. As we often do in Africa, it’s not fair to mock or insult people who committed suicide. We didn’t know what they went through. We didn’t know their story. We didn’t know the type of personality those people had when they were alive. There are so much we will never know about those who committed suicide. This is why we shouldn’t judge them or think their action is irrational. 

We should all be praying to God to prevent us from terrible life challenges and experience that may push us to the edge of suicide. No one is perfect. No one is above life challenges. 

Christian View On Suicide

The first point to be made clear is that from a Christian point of view, suicide is not just a problem; it’s also a sin against God. When God created us, He gave us authority over everything else He created and He expected us to utilize the freedom, talent, knowledge, and the control He gave us over other creatures, to fulfill destiny. Anyone who commits suicide has disappointed God and sinned against Him, because the person wasted everything God gave and provided for our flourishing on earth.   

As far as the teachings of the Bible are concerned, suicide is never one of God’s plans. God said He knows the thought has towards us; the thoughts of good and not of evil. So long as we are ready to obey God and follow His instructions and plans, there would be no reason to commit suicide. Anyone who walks with God without making a wrong turn can never commit suicide. 

To be sure, 3 out of the 7 people in the Bible who committed suicide were people who derailed from God’s plan for their lives. 

1. And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed with all his might; and the house fell…upon all the people that were therein (Judges 16:30).
2. Saul took a sword and fell on it (1 Samuel. 31:4).
3. [Judas] cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself (Matt. 27:5).

Suicide isn’t the Answer

I don’t know what you are going through or what you have been through. All I know is that God is ready to save you if you put your hands in His hands and walk with Him honestly. Suicide isn’t the best solution. God is the best solution. I don’t know anyone who called on God genuinely and isn’t saved. 

Whether you are a Christian or not, the name of Jesus is the best solution. Suicide isn’t the answer. Come to Jesus. He will comfort you and make you whole. He will restore everything you have lost. He will heal your wound. He will mend your broken heart. He will do everything to take suicide out of your life. Just come to Him. His name is a strong tower. The righteous run in and they are saved. 

If suicidal thoughts are tormenting you or someone you know, this prayer will help you. It’s good to go to mental health professionals but it’s best if you combine the professional advice with communication with God. He is the Alpha and Omega. He knows what the professionals can never know. Just talk to Him.

30 Prayers Against Suicidal Thoughts

If you haven’t given your or you have given your life to Christ, but have taken it back, renew your relationship with God or give your life to Jesus.

1. I silence every voice telling me no hope for me, but death, in the name of Jesus. 
2. Suicidal thoughts, I command you to leave me now, in the name of Jesus. 
3. The will of God for me is to live to proclaim His name. I will not die, in the name of Jesus. 
4. I remove my name from the list of suicide, in the name of Jesus. 
5. Evil arrows of suicide in my head, jump out now, in the name of Jesus. 
6. Satanic powers that want to manipulate me to use my own hands to kill myself, die in the name of Jesus. 
7. I decree the peace of God upon my life, in the name of Jesus. 
8. Powers causing me to see suicide as the only best solution die now, in the name of Jesus. 
9. I take back my life from the spirit of suicide, in the name of Jesus. 
10. God of Restoration, restore all the things I have lost, in the name is Jesus. 
11. Holy Michael, arise and fight the principalities tormenting me with suicide, in the name of Jesus. 
12. I destroy every yoke of heaviness and sorrow upon my head and neck, in the name of Jesus.
13. Spirit of hope arises now, in the name of Jesus. 
14. My spirit man, be strengthened by the fire of God, in the name of Jesus. 
15. Arrow of hopelessness in my life, jump out now and catch fire, in the name of Jesus. 
16. Arrow of chronic depression in my head, jump out and go back to your sender, in the name of Jesus.
17. Evil agent sent me to feed me with bad words that will push me to give up and die. I reject you now, in the name of Jesus. 
18. My life, take a new turn. Change for good in, the name of Jesus. 
19. I leave the league of frustrated people, in the name of Jesus. 
20. My joy is full, in the name of Jesus. The joy of the Lord is my strength, in the name of Jesus. 
21. Spirit of troubles, bad afflictions, making life useless and not worth living, die in the name of Jesus. 
22. Angels of good news, visit me in the name of Jesus. 
23. My life will not end shamelessly, in the name of Jesus. 
24. I reject every spirit of the coffin following me around, in the name of Jesus. 
25. I spoil all the evil works of satanic agents in my life, in the name of Jesus. 
26. My ears, as from today on, I decree that you will only hear positive things in the spirit, in the name of Jesus. 
27. I rise above sudden death as from today, in the name of Jesus.
28. I banish every spirit of spiritual deafness in the name of Jesus. 
29. I will not disappoint God by killing myself, in the name of Jesus. 
30. God has taken control of everything troubling me, in the name of Jesus. I bless His holy name.
