Prayer Points for Cleansing a New Apartment
Joshua 24:15 (KJV)
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Moving into a new apartment can be exciting, especially after a long period of searching, saving money, paying rent, or trusting God for accommodation. But as a believer, moving into a new apartment should involve more than arranging furniture, painting the walls, cleaning the rooms, and changing the locks. It is also an opportunity to dedicate your new home to God and establish from the beginning that your household belongs to the Lord.

When Joshua declared, “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD,” he was making a spiritual declaration concerning his household. In the same way, when entering a new apartment, you can consciously dedicate yourself, your family, your possessions, and your activities in that home to God. Prayer points for cleansing a new apartment are therefore not about living in fear of the house, but about inviting God’s presence, peace, protection, and order into your new environment.
Sometimes you may know very little about the history of a house or apartment before moving into it. You may not know everyone who previously lived there, what happened there, or what activities took place within those rooms. While you should not automatically assume that a previously occupied apartment is spiritually contaminated, it is reasonable for a Christian to pray and dedicate a new residence to God before settling fully into it.
There are also situations where people begin experiencing unusual disturbances after moving into a particular apartment, such as persistent fear, disturbing dreams, unexplained oppression, constant quarrelling, or an unusual lack of peace. Such experiences should be approached carefully because practical factors—including unfamiliar surroundings, security concerns, noise, stress, electrical problems, pests, or sleep disruption—may sometimes be responsible. However, where there is genuine spiritual oppression, believers have every right to pray in the authority of Jesus Christ and refuse to allow darkness to dominate their home.
The Bible shows that places can become associated with what people practise there, whether good or evil. Deuteronomy 7:25 says, “The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee.” Israel was instructed not to carry objects connected with idolatrous worship into their possession, teaching us that believers should not knowingly preserve objects dedicated to occult practices, idolatry, or ungodly spiritual activities.
If you discover suspicious ritual objects, charms, occult materials, strange inscriptions, or items deliberately hidden within a new apartment, do not panic or begin accusing previous occupants without evidence. Remove anything inappropriate that you can lawfully and safely remove, and where necessary involve the landlord or property manager. Spiritually, pray over your home and renounce any involvement with practices contrary to your faith.
A Christian home should become an environment where God’s name is honoured. Psalm 101:2 says, “I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.” Cleansing a new apartment is therefore not merely about commanding evil spirits to leave; it is also about examining what you yourself intend to bring into that house, because there is little value in praying over rooms while deliberately allowing ungodliness, bitterness, violence, immorality, occult practices, or persistent strife to dominate the household.
As you pray these prayer points for cleansing and dedicating a new apartment, do so with faith rather than fear. Walk through the rooms if you wish, pray, read Scripture aloud, worship God, and commit every part of the apartment to Him. Declare that your new home will be a place of peace, prayer, godly relationships, protection, progress, hospitality, rest, and testimony.
Why You Should Pray Over a New Apartment
1. To Dedicate the Home to God
Your first spiritual objective should be dedication rather than fear. Tell God, “Lord, this home belongs to You, and everything that happens here must honour You.”
A new apartment gives you an opportunity to establish a fresh spiritual atmosphere from the beginning.
2. To Renounce Every Ungodly Spiritual Influence
You may not know everything that happened in the apartment before you arrived. You do not need to investigate every former occupant or imagine frightening stories about the property.
Simply declare your allegiance to Jesus Christ and renounce every ungodly spiritual influence that has no place in your household.
3. To Pray Against Spiritual Oppression
Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.”
Where there is genuine spiritual opposition, Christians should not respond with panic. Pray in faith and stand upon the authority of Christ.
4. To Establish an Atmosphere of Peace
A beautiful apartment without peace can become an uncomfortable place to live. Pray that your home will not become a place of constant arguments, tension, hatred, fear, or confusion.
Let peace begin with the people living there. Sometimes what needs cleansing is not the building but the attitudes and behaviour of the occupants.
5. To Pray for Protection
Pray concerning burglary, fire, domestic accidents, dangerous electrical faults, flooding, and other hazards. Spiritual prayer should also motivate practical responsibility.
Check the doors, windows, wiring, gas appliances, water systems, smoke alarms where available, and other safety issues in the apartment.
6. To Cancel Fear About the Previous Occupants
Perhaps someone has told you frightening stories about the apartment. Maybe you heard that a previous tenant experienced tragedy there or that people believe strange things happened in the building.
Do not allow rumours to become your spiritual foundation. Your confidence must be in Christ, not in stories circulating around the neighbourhood.
7. To Establish Godly Activities in the Home
Let prayer be heard in your new apartment. Read Scripture there, worship God there, raise your children in godliness there, practise hospitality there, and conduct your relationships honourably there.
Do not merely pray against darkness; build a household where light is continually practised.
8. To Commit Your Neighbours and Environment to God
You are not living inside the apartment alone in the world. You have neighbours, landlords, security personnel, visitors, and people around the environment.
Pray for peaceful relationships, wisdom, favour, security, and discernment concerning those around you.
How to Spiritually Cleanse and Dedicate a New Apartment
Before or shortly after moving in, you can set aside time specifically for prayer. You may pray alone or, if you live with family, gather everyone together and dedicate the apartment to God.
Walk through the rooms and thank God for providing shelter. Instead of beginning with fear and warfare, begin with thanksgiving because Psalm 127:1 says, “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”
Read appropriate Scriptures aloud and pray over the living room, bedrooms, kitchen, entrances, and other parts of the home. You are not performing magic; you are expressing your faith in God and committing your household to Him.
If your Christian tradition includes anointing your home with oil, remember that the power is not in the oil itself. Do not turn oil, water, salt, or any other object into a charm. Your confidence must remain in Jesus Christ, prayer, obedience to God, and the truth of Scripture.
Remove objects you know are associated with occult worship, idolatry, or practices contrary to your faith. At the same time, do not become suspicious of every decoration, mark, old object, or unusual item you find in a previously occupied apartment. Exercise spiritual discernment together with common sense.
After praying, continue living a godly life inside the home. A one-day dedication ceremony cannot replace daily prayer, forgiveness, responsible behaviour, purity, wisdom, and obedience to God.
