There is a painful difference between having a business and having a business that people patronize. You can invest your money, time, energy, ideas, and prayers into a business, yet watch days pass without enough customers coming through the door, making enquiries, placing orders, or returning to buy again.
This is why the prayer in Deuteronomy 28:12 is powerful for every business owner: “The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure… and bless all the work of thine hand.” When God blesses the work of your hands, you are asking Him to place His favour upon your labour so that your efforts are not wasted, your decisions become fruitful, and what you have created reaches the people who genuinely need it.
A business does not survive merely because it exists; there must be an exchange of value between the business and its customers. You may have an excellent product, valuable service, beautiful shop, professional skill, or brilliant idea, but if the right people do not discover, trust, and patronize what you offer, your potential may remain hidden and your resources may gradually become exhausted.
This is why praying for customers to locate your business goes deeper than saying, “Lord, send buyers to me.” You are asking God to give your business visibility, connect you with your target market, cause satisfied customers to recommend you, give you wisdom to position your business correctly, and lead people who genuinely need what you provide toward you.
At the same time, you must understand that not every lack of customers is caused by spiritual warfare. Sometimes the problem is poor visibility, wrong pricing, bad customer service, weak marketing, inconsistent quality, an inconvenient location, or failure to understand what customers actually need. A wise business owner must be willing to pray, examine, learn, improve, and change whatever is preventing the business from growing.
However, as believers, we should not ignore the spiritual dimension of our labour. There can be seasons of unusual resistance, repeated disappointment, unexplained losses, discouragement, confusion, destructive decisions, or patterns that seem determined to frustrate the work of your hands; instead of living in fear or accusing people, bring your business before God and ask Him to break every spiritual resistance against its legitimate progress.
You should also pray specifically for the right customers, because every customer is not necessarily a profitable or healthy customer for your business. Ask God for genuine buyers, repeat customers, trustworthy clients, people who pay what they owe, customers who appreciate value, and satisfied people who will become voluntary advertisers by recommending your business to others.
Beloved, before you begin these prayers, place the entire business before God—your products, services, location, employees, finances, marketing, customers, ideas, reputation, and future plans. Pray, “Lord, bless the work of my hands; let the right people discover what I carry, show me what I need to improve, remove every barrier against legitimate growth, and establish this business.” May customers locate you, may your existing customers return, may referrals multiply, and may the work of your hands become fruitful and established, in Jesus’ name.
How to Position Your Business for More Customers
1. Make Your Business Easy to Find
People cannot patronize a business they do not know exists.
Make sure your business name, location, contact information, products, and services are clearly communicated. If your customers search online, maintain an accurate online presence and make it easy for them to contact you.
2. Provide Something People Actually Need
Prayer cannot replace understanding your market.
Study your customers. Find out what problems they are trying to solve and make sure your product or service provides genuine value.
3. Treat Customers Well
Good customer service can become one of your strongest forms of advertising.
Be respectful, responsive, truthful, and professional. People often remember how a business made them feel.
4. Give People Reasons to Return
Do not focus only on getting new customers while neglecting existing ones.
Quality, consistency, honesty, and good service can turn first-time buyers into repeat customers.
5. Encourage Recommendations
Satisfied customers can become business helpers.
When appropriate, encourage customers to recommend your business to others. A genuine recommendation from someone they trust can carry tremendous influence.
6. Maintain Integrity
Do not deceive customers because you desperately need sales.
Avoid false advertising, dishonest pricing, inferior substitutions, manipulation, and promises you cannot fulfil. A good reputation takes time to build but can be destroyed quickly.
7. Keep Improving
Sometimes slow business is an invitation to examine what needs improvement.
Review your pricing, packaging, location, communication, marketing, product quality, customer experience, and competitors. Pray for wisdom to recognize what must change.
8. Commit Your Business to God
Do not remember God only when sales are low.
Make Him part of your business journey in good and difficult seasons. Ask Him for wisdom concerning expansion, partnerships, investments, employees, customers, and major financial decisions.
Scriptures to Pray Over Your Business
Deuteronomy 28:12
“The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure… and to bless all the work of thine hand.”
Ask God to bless your legitimate labour and make your efforts fruitful.
Psalm 90:17
“And establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”
It is one thing to start a business; it is another thing for that business to become established.
Proverbs 16:3
“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
Bring your plans, decisions, marketing, finances, and business direction before God.
Proverbs 22:29
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings.”
Diligence and excellence can create visibility and opportunities.
Proverbs 11:25
