Subscribe NowThere are seasons of life when being strong becomes difficult. You may have prayed, waited, tried your best, encouraged yourself repeatedly, and still find yourself facing financial pressure, family problems, disappointment, rejection, sickness around you, relationship troubles, business challenges, uncertainty, or battles that seem to have lasted longer than you expected.
Isaiah 40:29 says, “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” Notice that God does not condemn the faint for becoming tired; He gives them power. When your own strength is no longer sufficient, God is able to supply the spiritual, emotional, and mental strength necessary to continue without allowing the battle to destroy you.
Strength during difficult times does not mean pretending that nothing hurts. There are moments when even strong believers cry, feel overwhelmed, become discouraged, or wonder how much longer they can continue. Faith does not require you to deny the reality of your pain; it teaches you where to turn when that pain becomes heavier than you can carry alone.
Difficult seasons can also become seasons of intense spiritual warfare. The enemy may use discouragement, fear, temptation, confusion, hopelessness, negative thoughts, or repeated setbacks to weaken your faith and convince you to abandon prayer, make desperate decisions, compromise your convictions, or conclude that God has forgotten you. This is why you must guard your heart especially carefully when you are under pressure.
One dangerous thing about prolonged battles is that tired people can make decisions they would never make when they are strong. Financial pressure can push someone toward dishonest opportunities, loneliness can push someone into the wrong relationship, disappointment can produce bitterness, and desperation can make dangerous shortcuts appear reasonable. During difficult times, therefore, pray not only for the problem to end but also for strength and wisdom not to destroy your future while trying to escape your present pain.
You must also recognize that not every difficulty is evidence of spiritual attack. Some seasons require patience, practical changes, professional assistance, better planning, reconciliation, rest, wise counsel, or the courage to correct previous decisions. Spiritual maturity means knowing when to fight in prayer, when to wait, when to change direction, and when to ask others for help.
Do not isolate yourself because life has become difficult. Moses needed Aaron and Hur to hold up his hands when he became tired in battle, showing us that even people carrying great responsibilities sometimes need others to strengthen them. God can use family, trusted friends, mature believers, counsellors, mentors, and other appropriate helpers to carry part of a burden that has become too heavy to carry alone.
Beloved, whatever difficult season you are facing, do not surrender your future to your present circumstances. Ask God to increase your strength, preserve your faith, expose every spiritual battle working against you, give you wisdom for the problems requiring action, and surround you with the right support; may you come out of this season stronger, wiser, and with a testimony, in Jesus’ name.
How to Remain Strong During Difficult Times
1. Be Honest With God
You do not need to pretend before God.
Tell Him where you are tired, afraid, disappointed, or confused. Many Psalms show people pouring out their distress before God while continuing to trust Him.
2. Refuse to Abandon Prayer
Difficulty can make prayer feel harder, but this is not the season to completely abandon your prayer altar.
Even when you cannot pray for long periods, continue coming before God. Ask others you trust to pray with you when necessary.
3. Guard Your Mind
Do not allow your present difficulty to become the only thing occupying your thoughts.
Be careful with thoughts such as, “Nothing will ever change,” “My life is finished,” or “God has forgotten me.” Your situation may be difficult without being permanent.
4. Avoid Desperate Decisions
Pressure creates urgency, but urgency does not always produce wisdom.
Before making major financial, marital, career, relocation, or business decisions during a crisis, slow down where possible, pray, examine the consequences, and seek sound counsel.
5. Recognize the Spiritual Battle
1 Peter 5:8 tells believers to be sober and vigilant.
Pray against temptation, deception, discouragement, fear, and every spiritual influence seeking to use your difficult season to pull you away from God.
6. Deal With Practical Problems Practically
Prayer and responsible action belong together.
If there is debt, develop a repayment plan. If there is a broken relationship, consider appropriate communication; if there is a professional or health matter, seek qualified help where necessary.
7. Stay Around the Right People
Difficult seasons reveal the importance of healthy relationships.
Stay close to people who can pray with you, speak truth to you, encourage you, and stop you from making destructive decisions when emotions are high.
8. Remember Previous Victories
Do not allow today’s battle to erase yesterday’s testimony.
Remember situations God has previously brought you through. What He did before can strengthen your confidence while you face what is happening now.
