Introduction

Today, we want to look at prayer points against eating forbidden fruits. Forbidden fruits are fruits or foods which have been declared uncleansed or instructed not to be eaten by anybody. It is seen as abominable fruits or fruits that are spiritually harmful to someone.

The fact that God gave us the opportunity to eat doesn’t mean we can eat everything. Identifying what to eat and what not to eat in every facet of life is an important factor that determines life and death.

The Lord commanded man to eat any fruit of the Garden except just one- the forbidden fruit. This forbidden fruit is of the tree of good and evil and God commanded that it should not be eaten, so that we won’t be exposed to danger and death. Doing what is contrary to the will of God is synonymous to eating the forbidden fruit. When we disobey God and do the things that are contrary to His will, we have eaten the forbidden fruit.

The fact that God told man not to eat the forbidden fruit does not mean He wants to deny him certain enjoyment, benefit and entitlement but rather He wants to save man from death. Right from creation, there are ways which look right before men which eventually leads to death. Men like Adam & Eve, Gehazi wouldn’t have taken the steps they took if they knew or believed that their action will lead to destruction.

The Lord is gracious enough to man in that He will not but always send the required signs and His word just to deliver him from every grip of sin. He did not strip us the power of our will to ensure that we choose life or death at every point in time. We must allow His word to always influence our choice so as to live. Choosing to live means obeying His word and running from forbidden fruits and choosing to die means disobeying and eating the forbidden fruits. For every believer, we must choose to live and enjoy His glory on earth and eventually make heaven. His divine direction and obedience ensures that we keep our eye and mouth off every forbidden fruit that is brought our way. We must run from the temptation of it like Joseph did in the house of Potiphar. If Adam and Eve or even Gehazi had closed their eyes and ran from the temptation of the forbidden fruits, they wouldn’t have gotten into the trouble they found themselves in. We must flee from forbidden fruits in order to fulfill our destiny.

We must be alive to the secret place for us to be able to kill the wants of the flesh. Forsaking forbidden fruits means we must be prayerful to destroy the traps and temptations to want it.
