20 Importance Of Giving Tithes And Offerings In Church

INTRODUCTION

Tithe is the practice of giving one tenth of one’s income to the church to support the general operation and mission of the church. For the daily running of a church, funds are needed, and funds can be generated by the leadership of the church when donations are given by members of that church. Tithe is one of the ways to support the growth of a church. Churches like other organizations require funds to operate and funds can be gotten from tithe and offering given by members of the church. Tithing helps the church to be actively involved in helping the less-privileged people around. God commanded tithing and when one tithes, it brings honor to God. Tithing honors the scriptural principles of generously provided things needed in the church and laying up treasures in heaven. In the Old Testament, God commissioned the tribe of the Levi to serve by caring for the tabernacle and providing spiritual leadership for the nation of Israel, God instructed the Levi not to be given any inheritance because of this great commission while the rest of the Israelites were instructed to bring tithes of their increase to provide for the priests and Levites. In the New Testament, Jesus mentioned the practice of tithing in Matthew 23:23. Paul also admonished the Christians to give to those in need and to those who were ministering in the gospel. Tithing helps us to remind ourselves that all resources belong to God and are provided through the grace of God. 

Offerings are voluntary giving during a fellowship with other Christians, giving offerings in church shows that God is living in us and that we are willing to offer God a small portion of the abundance he has already given to us. Offerings should be given depending on the level of our willingness. It should not be grudgingly or sparingly given but generously given. Giving offerings is an expression of our thankfulness and praise to God which comes from a heart of worship recognizing that all things belong to God. God is a good giver and motivated us to give by first giving us His beloved son to die for the sins of the world in John 3:16. Giving tithe and offerings in the church is an expression and declaration of love for God. Tithe and offerings are the lifeblood that keeps the church moving which is the key component of good financial stewardship. Tithes and offerings are very important acts that should be practiced by believers all the time. There are benefits attached when one gives tithes and offerings in the church and in this article, we will be considering 20 importance of giving tithe and offerings in church.

1. TO HONOR GOD: Matthew 22:21

When you give tithe and offerings as a believer to the church, it shows that you honor God and put him first in all you do. It shows that you acknowledge the fact that He is the creator and owner of the universe.

2. TITHES AND OFFERINGS ATTRACTS GOD’S BLESSINGS: Malachi 3:10; Luke 6:38

Giving of tithes and offerings in the church attracts God’s blessings and they give a sense of financial dominion to the giver. Tithes and offerings enable ministers to proclaim the gospel to the needy and ensure comfort for the ministers.

9. TO OFFER WORTHY SACRIFICE: Psalms 4:5

When tithes and offerings are given to the church, it elevates our missional heart as believers and enables us to trust in God to secure our finances and enables us to give worthy sacrifices to our creator.

10. TO MAKE ONE FRUITFUL IN ALL AREAS

Giving tithes and offerings to church helps one to be fruitful in all areas one is expected to be. Unnecessary funds will not be wasted in strange occurrences because the Lord oversees your finances.

11. TO INCREASE AND SOLIDIFIES OUR FAITH IN GOD

Tithes and offerings help to prove our strong faith in God as the only source of all good things happening in one’s life.

12. TO GET RID OF LACK

Tithe and offering to church create room for abundance in one’s life thereby getting rid of lack. It will make God to bless one more because people are depending on one’s prosperity to survive.

13. TO HELP TO SET GOOD PRIORITIES: Matthew 6:20-21

Giving tithes and offerings to church helps us to invest in heavenly things which makes us to set our priorities right before God. When we set our life on eternal things, that is where our money will be directed which is for the benefit of the kingdom of God.

Giving tithes and offerings to church prepared us to experience everlasting joy attached to the anticipation of how God will multiply it for His purposes.

15. TO DEVELOP A COMPASSIONATE LIFE

Giving tithes and offerings in church helps to develop a compassionate life towards the things of God, His ministers and to the needy around us.

When one sows into the kingdom of God, it helps to develop personal relationships with God because we are trusting God on another level and giving him back that which is due to Him.

Giving tithes and offerings in church allows God to act on our behalf when bad things want to happen and allows the windows of heaven to be opened on our behalf too.

18. TO DESTROY THE ENEMY’S PLAN

Giving tithes and offerings in church helps to destroy the enemy’s plan over the ministry. Satan don’t want the ministry to strive in prosperity and winning souls for the kingdom by neutralizing the financial effectiveness for the kingdom of God which is done when the members are not involved in tithes and offerings given but when we give our tithes and offerings, we destroy the plans of the devil and his agents over the church. Also, the enemy promotes false beliefs about tithes and offerings in order to rob people of their blessings which will make them help others but by giving tithes and offerings in church, such evil plans are destroyed, and the church members grow in abundance and the gospel spread too.

It creates room for financial dominance in the world and helps in our faith walk with God because it shows we surrender to the supremacy of God that He owes all that we have, and He alone can take us to a greater place of abundance in all ramifications.
