30 Prayer Points Against Spiritual Slumber

The Word “Slumber” in physical terms, simply means Sleep. On the other hand, a state of spiritual slumber is where a person is no longer active in the things of the spirit, a situation where there’s little or no self motivation towards issues that concerns service to God, such as Praying, fasting and living a holy Life.

It can also mean that one’s spiritual eyes are shut and receiving direction from God then becomes a problem.

The state of spiritual slumber is a very dangerous zone for believers, because spiritual slumber opens the door for attacks as the scripture says in Proverbs 13:25.

Spiritual slumber makes one vulnerable to attacks from the enemy, and except for the mercies of God, the problems caused by spiritual slumber can tarry for long in a man’s life.

This is why we are sharing with you 30 Prayer points against spiritual slumber. As you go through these prayers, may your strength be renewed like the eagles, and you shall be filled with spiritual hunger to seek God daily and know Him more in Jesus Mighty Name.

Causes of Spiritual Slumber

1. Sin and disobedience: When you continually indulge in any kind of sin, you will continually experience spiritual slumber.(Romans 6:12)
2. Prolonged Expectation: As the scripture says, most times when our heart desires are not met, discouragement sets in, and when we don’t encourage ourselves in God, spiritual slumber will subtly step in, making you lose all desire to serve God more. (Proverbs 13:12).
3. Ungodly Association evil/love of the world: (Matthew 13:8) (1 Corinthians 15:33)
4. Frequent Absence From Spiritual Gatherings And Exercises (Hebrews 10:25)
5. Unbelief & Doubt (Romans 11:20-32)
6. Comfort And Ease (Amos 6:1) (Matthew 19:24)

Practical Ways To Overcome Spiritual Slumber

1. Pray in tongues for at least 30 minutes per day; praying in tongues builds your spiritman, and when you do this on a daily basis, it helps you to tackle even problems that you are not aware of. This way you will widely awake in your spirit (Jude 1:20) (1 Corinthians 14:2)
2. Fast Weekly: (Be intentional about this), Fasting helps you to get rid of fleshly desires, and habits that can drag you into sin (Matthew 17:21).
3. Fill your mind with positive thoughts always: guard your heart with all diligence. A large percentage of what a man does starts from the heart, and if you can guard your heart, the thoughts of committing sin will not thrive, the thought of leaving the church will not overpower you, the thought “enjoying” life outside Christ will not excel, therefore guard yourself diligently with the Word of God. (Philippians 4:8)
4. Get A Spiritual Mentor: The role of a mentor in a man’s life can not be over emphasized, do you often find yourself falling into sin or any other cause of spiritual slumber? If yes, get a mentor whom you can trust and confined in, this will help you to learn better how to avoid spiritual slumber(Hosea 4:6)
5. Get an accountability partner: Do this for the four procedures and tasks above. It is important that you get an accountability partner who you can give honest reports on how far you have been following the procedures above. Preferably someone who is also ready to go through same process with you, that will naturally encourage to keep at it and challenge you to do even more (Proverbs 27:17)

1. Oh Lord I thank you for your mercy and your grace upon my life and my endeavors.
2. Thank you Lord Jesus because your thoughts for me are thoughts of good and not of evil to bring me an expected end, all glory to you In Jesus Mighty Name.
3. Oh Lord I thank you for your faithfulness over my life even in my unfaithfulness and carelessness, I thank you Lord Jesus
4. Father I ask for your mercy in all ways I have sinned against you and fallen short of your glory, please let your mercy speak for me Lord, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
5. Oh Lord, I ask that in your mercy please purge me of every besetting sin that makes me slip into spiritual slumber frequently in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
