Fast and pray with sincerity: Make sure you are fasting not to please anyone but to have an encounter with God.  Matthew 6:16-18 “When you fast, do not look sober as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
4. Consecrate yourself to God’s presence: We fast and pray so we can easily access the presence of God with our prayers and petitions. 

Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly”
