What Is Spiritual Warfare Prayers
From the word “WARFARE”, it refers to opposition between two or more beings (Spiritual or physical).For warfare to occur it means there’s a disagreement between a territory or a kingdom or a being and another territory or a kingdom or a being. Warfare is not just a show of opposition but a show of strength. In a war, either of the opposite sides is trying to prove their strength i.e. to make the other submit to their power.
Warfare is more than fighting for power, but for authority .Everyone living being has been given power, but some have been given the privilege of authority. Authority is a platform for the expression of a man’s power. No matter how a man is powerful, he can’t defeat a man with an authority higher than his. So in warfare, The sit of authority is what they fight to get so they can exercise their power.

PHYSICAL WARFAREÂ
As the name implies, is the war that happens between everything that exist and can be seen. We find this kind in our today’s world. War between nations. For instance, world wars etc. Every dispute amongst men and territory, even in our locality is a proof of warfare.
- SPIRITUAL WARFAREÂ
The is the dispute between two unseen worlds or between the seen world and the unseen world. In other words, it’s a war between either two spiritual territories or between the spiritual and the physical. The emphasis is on spiritual; Man is a spiritual being who is legal on the earth because of the body suit given by God.
WHY WARFARE?
The existence of warfare is because of disagreement. Warfare didn’t start with men. It started with spiritual beings. God didn’t create beings to war with them. In fact, it’s actually going to be a disrespect for He himself to fight with what He created. He created living beings with free will like himself. Warfare exist today because every living being was given free will. Therefore, warfare is the expression of the ‘free will’ of living beings created by God. One of God’s creation desired the ‘seat of authority ‘ of the one who created him. As aforementioned ,warfare exist because of a fight for the sit of authority, more than power.
Bible Verse: Revelation 12:7-9 (NIV)
” Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven; The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.”
If heaven had war even up till this date, then why should men not have wars? Why should a Christian not engage in warfare? The wars we have today on earth was because spirit beings that could not win in heaven were thrown down to the earth.
 Revelation 12:9 says;
“…HE WAS HURLED TO THE EARTH AND THE ANGELS WITH HIM”
Therefore, these beings decided to war against this territory (earth) they were illegal on because they had no authority over it due to their absence of a body suit. The only living being created by God himself to will it’s authority, is man who has an earthly body, because of this Authority, warfare to get that authority exist. This is what Rev 12:12 says “Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! ;but woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury because he knows that his time is short.”
The book of Revelation12:17 says, “Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus”. A man who doesn’t keep God’s command or have a testimony of Jesus as the Christ and son of God has no warfare with the devil. He has little concern about them. He doesn’t create war with them because they do his biddings by disobeying God’s command. In summary, the origin of Warfare began in heaven and then to earth.
Now on earth; the heavenly beings that already defeated the other opposition couldn’t come on earth to fight the spirit beings that were thrown down to earth in order to defend man. No it won’t be necessary because, it’s not their world but the world of men. So we are to defend our territory by ourselves but we can do that well, if we depend on God, our source.
Depending on Him is like giving access for Him to bring his defense from heaven, because we are ignorant of how heaven defeated those opposing beings. Those living beings know the strategies they implore to defeat those creatures. Adam sinned and lost the authority through disobedience. God couldn’t take that authority just like that. It’s the reason He had to become a man (Jesus Christ) yet God (a mystery).The fact that Jesus restored that authority to man doesn’t mean that warfare has ended but it has intensified the more. The devil was ashamed when he was defeated by Jesus. He saw Jesus in hell after his death and before his resurrection. Jesus took the key of authority and restored it unto man.
Mathew 28:18
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me”. This was what he told the apostles; by becoming a man and dying for the sins of man, Jesus Christ satisfied the wrath of God. Jesus didn’t come to end the war physically, but came to take back Authority. He said “It is finished”. He understood that, once authority is taken back, no matter the warfare, the highest authority will always win. Christ came not to end a warfare but to give victory for a continuous warfare. For every time the Gospel of God’s kingdom is preached, war breaks out against heaven because the kingdom of heaven is advancing on earth.
Matthew 11:12; “And from the time John the Baptist began preaching until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing, and violent people are attacking it”.
Therefore, the only way the kingdom of darkness can be victorious against the kingdom of heaven advancing on earth is by stopping to preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God. And so, warfare isn’t something optional for a believer who amongst the, Revelation 12:17 as as said earlier. The origin of warfare is a good insight that helps a man to understand why he needs to war.
WEAPONS OF WARFAREÂ
- The Blood of Jesus Christ; Hebrews 12:24, Revelation 12:11
Blood is a very important part of man that God doesn’t play with. Whenever the blood of a man is spilled especially in the case of injustice, that blood of such man cries to God. Genesis 4:10; “But the lord said, what have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground!”.Blood is substance of this earth and so for Christ to defeat the enemy he needs this substance of man. Christs’ blood was spilled, he was killed unjustly, though the will of God prevailed . When his blood cries unto God, it cries for mercy than vengeance, unlike that of Abel.
See what the scriptures said: Hebrews 12:24; “You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness rather than vengeance like the blood of Abel. Revelation 12:11“And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony”. The blood of Jesus will always be the source of victory of the believer. The blood of Jesus offers protection to a believer who goes into warfare. It prepares such believer for war by first of all cleansing such believer from his sin so he shall fight without sustaining an injury.
- The word of our testimony about Jesus; Revelation 12:11
“And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony”.There is an encounter with Jesus every believer needs to experience before he can gain victory in a warfare. It’s possible to go for a war and be defeated. The words of our testimony can only gotten by our encounters (walk) with God. It is this weapon that gives us confidence to go for war in the first place. Without courage, it’s useless to go for war. What’s your encounter with Jesus? What can you hold on to?

- The Armour of God ; Ephesians 6:12-18
Armor is a built defense that offers protection. In other words, armor is built to protect one from unseen or seen invading enemies. Armor is like a stand that is always on ground whether one is awake or sleeping. It’s like an insurance. For a Christian, it’s like a city with a strong fence.
It’s more than an ordinary armor, rather it’s the ARMOR OF GOD. Yes, God instituted this armor. We can only wear this armor through prayers and the kind of life we live. They are testament and pillars of fire we can carry about even looking for our enemy to devour.
- The Fire of God; Hebrews 12:29
This last weapon, is the Fire of God. This one is initiated by God especially when he’s angry at an unjust system. The Fire of God is an expression of God’s fury against his enemy, but a weapon of purification/judgement in the hearts of men. In warfare, we use the fire of God to bring about the ‘Justice system of God’, against our enemies after that same fire has purified us.
In summary, Spiritual warfare prayers in relation to being a Christian is an exercise of our “authority in God” ,over the earth, against unseen forces that prowl around the earth looking for whom to destroy.
