The Gifts Of The Spirits And Their Meaning
INTRODUCTION
What the concept “gift/s of the Spirit ” refers to:
A spiritual gift or charism (plural: charisms or charismata; in Greek singular: χάρισμα charism, plural: χαρίσματα charismata) is a concept in Christianity that refers to an endowment or extraordinary power given by the Holy Spirit.
These are believed by followers to be supernatural graces which individual Christians need (and needed in the days of the Apostles) to fulfill the mission of the Church.

The term charism denotes any good gift that flows from God’s benevolent love.

These abilities, often termed “charismatic gifts”, are
1. The word of wisdom
2. The word of knowledge,
3. Increased faith,
4. The gifts of healing,
5. The gift of miracles,
6. Prophecy,
7. The discernment of spirits,
8. Diverse kinds of tongues,
9. The Interpretation of tongues.
To these are added the gifts of apostles, prophets, teachers, helps (connected to service of the poor and sick), and governments (or leadership ability) which are connected with certain offices in the Church. These gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to individuals, but their purpose is to build up the entire Church. They are described in the New Testament, primarily in 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4. 1 Peter 4 also touches on the spiritual gifts.
The gifts are related to both seemingly “natural” abilities and seemingly more “miraculous” abilities, empowered by the Holy Spirit. The gifts are related to both seemingly “natural” abilities and seemingly more “miraculous” abilities, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
The Apostle Paul said: “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:
…for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” (1 Cor 12:1; 8-11)
THE CLASSES OF THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT.
The above mentioned gifts of the Holy Spirit can be classified into three:
1. The Gifts of Revelation,
2. The Gifts of Inspiration
3. The Gifts of Power,
THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT AND THEIR MEANINGS :
1. Gifts of Revelation: A supernatural revelation, or insight into the divine will and purpose, often given by the Spirit to solve perplexing problems and situations.
2. The Word of Knowledge: The Word of Knowledge is a supernatural revelation of Divine knowledge or insight in the Divine mind, will or plan, to know things that could not be known of oneself.
3. Discerning of Spirits: This is a supernatural revelation or insight into the realm of spirits to detect their presence and plans.
4. Prophecy: Prophecy is the supernatural utterance in the native tongue. It is a miracle of divine utterance, not conceived by human thought or reasoning. It includes speaking unto men to edification, exhortation, and comfort.
5. Divers Kinds of Tongues: The supernatural utterance in other languages that are not known to the speaker.
6. The Interpretation of Tongues: The supernatural ability to interpret in the native tongue what is uttered in other languages not known by the one who interprets by the Spirit.
8. The Gift of Healing: The healing of people’s sicknesses without the help of human power
“God in Man” is what sets Christianity apart from all the religions in the world. We can then personally pray and worship our Father God and ask for His Divine favors and help. Drawing near to God is a part of pure worship: When we pray and worship God, we draw nearer to Him and can more greatly sense His Holy Spirit and love. If we draw near unto Him, He will draw near to us, (James 4:8). Rom 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” nearer to Him and can more greatly sense His Holy Spirit and love. If we draw near unto Him, He will draw near to us, (James 4:8).
Quite often, this is not explained very well and can be very confusing. But there is a difference in having the blessed Holy Spirit abiding within, and in being empowered by the Holy Spirit.
The God of Hope Wishing and hoping in people, events, and circumstances is not real hope. Real hope springs from absolute faith in God and His promises. Rom 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
May our lives be a manifestation of the gift of the Spirit in Jesus name.
