Biblical Story Of Abraham And Sarah

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows on the barren land as an elderly couple, Abraham and Sarah, set out on a journey guided by an unseen promise. God had called them to leave their homeland, promising to make him the father of a great nation. As they journeyed through unfamiliar territories, their trust in God’s plan was tested.

 “Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.'” (Genesis 12:1)

“I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3)

In Egypt, faced with famine, Abraham introduced Sarah as his sister to Pharaoh, fearing for his life. The royal court welcomed her, but through divine intervention, in the form of plagues,the truth was revealed. Their faith in God’s protection remained unshaken.

 God repeated His covenant with Abraham, promising him descendants numerous as the stars. His faith, anchored in the promises of a faithful God, defied reasons.

“And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.” (Genesis 15:6)

Sarah, in her quest for a child, suggested a cultural solution and Ishmael was born by their slave girl, Hagar. But tensions escalated, leading to Hagar’s flight. Alone in the wilderness, an angel assured her of God’s plan.

“Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael because the Lord has listened to your affliction.” (Genesis 16:11)

Renewing the covenant, God sealed it with the covenant of circumcision. Sarai, now named Sarah, was promised a son in her old age.

Three mysterious visitors arrived, revealing the imminent birth of Isaac. Laughter echoed in their tent as incredulity turned to joy.

“Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time, I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” (Genesis 18:14)

Abraham’s hospitality was tested once more when the visitors foretold the impending destruction of Sodom. His plea for the righteous spared Lot and his family.

“Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” (Genesis 18:25)
