INTRODUCTION

When we become born-again, the Holy Spirit changes our hearts from one of hatred and indifference toward God to one of love and longing for righteousness and holiness. Only through confession of sin and faith in Jesus Christ is it possible to have a relationship with God and experience what it means to be “born again.”

Being born again should not be mistaken for church attendance or playing religion. It is a lot deeper than that. In this article, we will be examining ten (10) signs of being born again.

10 SIGNS THAT YOU ARE BORN AGAIN

There are numerous signs that show a person is born again. However, for the purpose of this article, we will look at ten of the signs. These are:

  1. Confession of Jesus as Lord

First, according to 1 John 5:1, confession is a sign of being again. “Everyone born of God believes that Jesus is the Christ.” You must believe and be saved before you may be confident in your salvation. Jesus Christ must be acknowledged as Lord. Some people believe they are saved because they were raised in a Christian environment, have attended church their entire lives, have undergone baptism, or have made an effort to live a moral life. On the other hand, they have never explicitly and publicly acknowledged Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

The Bible declares that because of our wicked nature, we are sinners who are estranged from God. Heaven is something we can never buy, earn, or climb our way into by ourselves. No amount of good deeds or attempts can save us. That is why God took on human form, lived a perfectly good life, died on a cross, spilt His blood for us, and then rose again. He fulfilled our punishment, bore the weight of our condemnation, and gave us the chance to experience a new birth.

  1. He does not commit sin

A born-again individual does not regularly engage in sin. He no longer commits sin with all of his heart, will, and inclination. He presumably did not always consider whether his deeds were wicked and did not always feel sorrow after doing a wrong. Sin and him got along well; there wasn’t any dispute between them. However, a genuine Christian despises sin, runs from it, battles it, regards it as his worst plague, resents its burden, weeps when it overtakes him, and longs to be totally freed from it. Sin has turned into a terrible thing that no longer makes him happy and is even of no concern to him.

  1. He is obedient to God’s word

Now, Jesus and John both affirm the same thing.

“Keep my word. Remain with Me. (1 John 15:17)

How do you stay with Him? if you follow His instructions. “He who obeys My commands is the one who loves Me. And my Father will love him too if he loves Me. (John 14:21) Jesus said as much.

Therefore, the inquiry that you and I must pose to ourselves today is: Are we God’s obedient children? Or are we rebellious offspring of the forces of evil and the devil himself?

  1. He maintains a life of purity

1 John 3:3.

According to the Bible, whoever has this hope in him will purify himself. Are you desirous of pursuing holiness? As stated in Hebrews 12:14 in the Bible, “Pursue peace with all men and righteousness, without which no one will see God.”

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God, says Jesus. In Matthew 5:8 therefore when we discuss purity, we naturally refer to sexual purity. Meaning that both before and after marriage, our minds, thoughts, and behaviors are ones that satisfy God

Purity is greater than that. It exists in our thoughts, intentions, and motives. Is it pure in God’s eyes? Is it our intention for others to see what we do when we do it?

  1. He is filled with compassion for others

Genuinely rescued people have compassion as a hallmark. How can someone tell whether they are a Christian? By your values, your way of life, and the people you care about. The apostle leaves little mistake about how love permeates the lives of good Christians, which is a reoccurring topic in 1 John. We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren, he said. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God (1 John 4:7; 3:14).

Do you cherish the relationships you share with your God-given relatives? Those who appreciate and bless the family of God are those who are truly saved.

  1. An unsatisfying hunger for God’s word

Peter gives a clue on how to recognize if you have experienced rebirth.

Therefore, if you have experienced the kindness of the Lord, set away every hatred, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander in order to thirst for the pure milk of the word and grow by it in regard to salvation ” (1 Peter 1:23, 2:1-3 NASB).

Simply put, this indicates that the character trait of someone who is born again and personally acquainted with the Lord is a hunger for the Word.

  1. He does not doubt his status in Christ

Genuine Christians may experience severe doubts over their salvation. They frequently condemn themselves and fret over every mistake or setback. Their soft consciences stir up questions all the time. They have genuine faith, and God has undoubtedly worked in their hearts. To put an end to uncertainties, the Bible offers loving guarantees. People who battle with uncertainties occasionally succumb to erroneous standards for salvation. As a result, the enemy leverages these problems to insert a comma where God intended for a period.

  1. He is joyfully expectant of the return of Jesus

A truly born again Christian is hopeful that Jesus is coming back for His saints; and he thus prepares for this great day. He lives his life as if it is the last, because he believes that any moment might be his last.

  1. He is prayerful

One of the signs of a born again Christian is that he no longer finds prayer burdensome or boring. He always gives himself to prayers. He stands in gap for the unsaved souls around him, and travail in prayer until they encounter Jesus.

  1. He overcomes temptations and sin

A born again Christian no longer gives in to the temptations of sin and the flesh. The reason is that he does not satisfy his flesh, rather, he pleases God always. He is constantly led by the Spirit, and subject to the Spirit leading.

CONCLUSION

Being born again is an experience that should be evident in your daily lifestyles. It is not just by saying that you are born again, it is by actually doing it.
