20 Signs That God Is Calling You To start A Ministry

We now live in a time when ministry is seen as a profession and a means to get rich. But the truth is that Ministry is not a profession one chooses to enter because of academic qualifications or orator ability. Without a genuine calling, neither the grace nor the spiritual gifts necessary will be bestowed upon you. The result would be frustration, an absence of God’s anointing, and a ministry devoid of true satisfaction, reduced to a mere occupation. In this article, we will explore twenty signs that God is calling you to start a ministry.

1. A sense of divine calling and commission

One of the signs that God is calling you to start a ministry is a  sense of divine calling and commission. In the Bible, we have examples of people who experienced this, such as Moses, who felt God’s call through a burning bush (Exodus 3:1-4). Likewise, Jeremiah was called by God and given a specific mission even before he was born (Jeremiah 1:5). Just like them When you feel this, it’s a sign that you’re being prepared for a unique Ministry.

2. Having a passion or zeal for Ministry

The second sign that God is calling you to start a Ministry is having a deep passion or enthusiasm. When you’re consumed with a burning desire to serve others and use your gifts, it’s a clear sign that He’s calling you to ministry. Your passion will fuel your dedication to show forth His greatness, preach His Word, and make a positive impact.

3. A desire to bring glory to God

The third sign that God is calling you to start a Ministry is a burning desire to bring glory to God. When you long to see God’s name exalted, and your heart is filled with the burning desire to serve Him, you are experiencing a calling to ministry.

4. A burden for something or some people

Another sign that God is calling you to start a Ministry is when you carry a strong burden for something or some people. This burden is not just an emotion; it’s a sense of responsibility laid upon your heart by the Lord. In the Bible, Nehemiah had a heavy heart for the broken walls of Jerusalem. This burden led him to take action and rebuild the city’s walls. Your burden is a sign of God’s purpose for you in His Kingdom. So pray about it, and seek His guidance.

5. Spiritual growth and maturity

Spiritual growth and maturity is a sign that God is calling you to ministry. As believers, God equips those He calls, and your journey of growth and maturity is part of His plan for your ministry. In 1 Timothy 4:14, Paul reminds Timothy not to neglect the spiritual gift within him, which was given through prophecy. Moses spent years maturing in the wilderness and was called to lead God’s people out of Egypt. Our growth in faith equips us to serve. So, allow the Spirit of God to mold you into His vessel fitted for His use.

6. Spiritual Gifts and Talents Aligned with Ministry

God equips us with unique spiritual gifts and talents for His purpose. These gifts are not just for our benefit but for the greater good of God’s kingdom. 1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” When your gifts align with ministry, it’s a sign that God is calling you to expand His kingdom. So, develop your gifts and let them be useful for the service of the Lord.

7. Persistent Thoughts About Ministry

Have you ever found your mind constantly dwelling on the idea of ministry? It’s not just a passing thought; it’s a persistent longing in your heart. This burning desire could be one of the signs that God is calling you to start a ministry. If you find yourself having thoughts to make a difference in people’s lives through ministry, don’t dismiss or ignore it. Act on it, and take steps.

8. Divine nudges or dreams

Divine nudges can manifest through dreams and visions. These divine nudges are God’s way of whispering His purpose into your heart. Joseph dreamed that he would be a ruler, and eventually, his ministry saved not only Egypt but his family too (Genesis 37:5-10). So, if you’ve been receiving these divine nudges or dreams, take it as a sign that God is calling you to start a ministry or serve in a specific ministry. It might be the Holy Spirit prompting you, like when God called Samuel (1 Samuel 3:4-10)

9. Clear Vision and Mission

A clear vision and mission is one of the signs that God is calling you to start a Ministry. In Proverbs 29:18, we learn that “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” This truth is seen in the lives of our heroes of faith both in the bible and in recent times. Just as these heroes of faith had a clear vision, when you have a clear vision and mission for your life, it’s a sign that God is calling you to serve His kingdom.

10. Confirmation from other believers

One of the signs that God is calling you to start a ministry is confirmation from fellow believers. The confirmation of Paul and Barnabas into ministry came from the believers. In Acts 13:2-3., “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” When other Christians confirm your calling through prayer, encouragement, or prophecy, it is a clear indication that God is leading you into ministry.

11. Love for teaching the word of God

God often ignites a deep desire within us to impart His wisdom to others. If you find yourself consumed by a love for teaching the word of God, take it as a sign of His calling. Jeremiah felt the word of God burning within him like a fire (Jeremiah 20:9). His love for teaching God’s word was so strong that he couldn’t hold it back. Your love for teaching the word could be the beginning of a ministerial assignment.

12. Passion for bringing lost souls back to God

When we are passionate about seeing others come to know God and experience His grace, it is an indication that God is calling us to ministry to His people. This desire can be expressed in a variety of ways, such as outreach, evangelism, or church service. The story of the lost sheep in Luke 15:3-7 reminds us of God’s compassion for the lost. Allow God to use you to make a difference in the lives of those who are lost and in need of God’s love.

13. Strong desire to serve others

A great desire to serve others is one of the signals that God is calling you to establish a Ministry. This desire to serve was reflected in Christ’s words in Matthew 20:28: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” As Christ selflessly ministered to the needs of others, we, too, should be driven by a desire to serve others.

14. Doors opening for ministry opportunities

In Acts, we read the story of Philip. He was faithfully ministering to the people, and then, the Holy Spirit led him to a road where he saw an Ethiopian eunuch in his chariot searching for the truth. Through this divine opportunity, Philip’s ministry expanded in a way he couldn’t have imagined. When God is calling you to start a ministry, He often opens doors that you couldn’t open on your own. So, be attentive to the opportunities that come your way, and seek God’s will in prayer

15. Alignment with church leadership

One of the signs that God is preparing you for ministry is alignment with church leadership. When you align yourself with your church leaders, you gain wisdom, and spiritual guidance. In the Old Testament, Elisha was plowing his field when Elijah called him to follow him. Elisha left everything and followed Elijah. He learned under and grew under Elijah and eventually stepped into his ministry. (1 Kings 19:19-21).

16. Confirmation through scripture

Have you ever sensed the call to begin a ministry? Sometimes, the Lord guides us with instructions. God’s word is full of wisdom that reveals His purpose and equip us for His work.  When the Word aligns with your ministry vision, it’s a powerful sign that God is calling you. So, if you sense God calling you, trust His Word as a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path (Psalm 119:105)

17. Inner conviction and peace

In the journey of faith, sometimes God’s call is not a booming voice from the heavens; instead, it’s a still voice in our hearts. When you find that your heart is burdened with a strong desire to serve others and share His word, and a calm assurance settles in, it’s a divine sign. You don’t need to question your abilities or have doubts; you only need to put your faith in God.

18. Counsel from mentors and spiritual fathers

Mentors and spiritual fathers are instruments of God’s grace. When God wants to communicate with His people, He often speaks through His servants. Seeking their guidance doesn’t mean you lack the ability to hear God’s voice. Seeking their counsel can be one of the signs that God is calling you to start a ministry. Their counsel may come in various forms: a timely word during a sermon, a conversation, or a dream

19. Divine leading by the Holy Spirit

Have you experienced moments when a thought or an idea drops into your mind out of nowhere? You can’t explain it, but it feels like a divine prompting. That’s the Holy Spirit at work in you. The Holy Spirit is a helper that leads you to places where your gifts intersect with God’s plan. As you grow closer to Him, this prompting will become more real

20.  A Focus on Heavenly Things

When you find yourself passionately drawn to spiritual matters and your thoughts gravitate toward the Kingdom of God, it indicates that God is calling you into ministry. Your deeds, words, character, giving and lifestyles are centered around kingdom advancement. If you see this happening to you, know you’re one of the chosen ones.

Conclusion

In summary, ministry is not limited to the pulpit, not about titles or recognition. Ministry is about revealing Christ and it can be expressed in various forms. You might be called to mentor, counsel, or serve your nation. In whatever you do, do it to glorify God and bless lives.
