Steps to Preventing Suicide

1. Open Communication: Establish an environment where your child feels safe to express their feelings without fear of judgment.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” (James 1:19)

2. Encourage Faith and Prayer: Encourage your child to develop a personal relationship with God through prayer and reading the Bible.

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

3. Show Unconditional Love: Reassure your child of your unconditional love and God’s unending love for them.

“We love him because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

4. Seek Professional Help: Don’t hesitate to seek help from mental health professionals who can provide necessary support and intervention. “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” (Proverbs 11:14)

5. Monitor and Limit Negative Influences: Be vigilant about the media and social influences that your child is exposed to, promoting positive and uplifting content.

“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” (1 Corinthians 15:33)

6. Promote Community and Fellowship: Involve your child in church activities and youth groups where they can build supportive friendships.

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

7. Provide Hope and Encouragement: Regularly remind your child of God’s promises and the hope found in Christ.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
