INTRODUCTION
The Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego story in the bible is the story that talks about a strong belief in God’s supremacy no matter where you find yourself, it is a story of strong faith in God which brings about a change in a whole country. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were part of the Hebrew from the King’s seed taken from Jerusalem to Babylon. Their original names were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah but were given Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego by the prince of the eunuchs. They were friends with Daniel and took part in eating vegetables with Daniel because they don’t want to eat food and drinks given to idols. From a biblical view, they were the inner circle of Daniel who he normally informed about things, and he made mention of them to King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2:49 after the interpretation of the King’s dream was established which led to their position in the affairs of the province in Babylon.

Subscribe NowEven though they were born into royalty, taken from their homes, and directed to be doing another thing in Babylon, they maintained their faith in God and did whatever they had to do to follow the laws of Moses. According to the book of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar the king in Chapter 3, erected a golden image and asked all the people to bow down to it whenever there is any form of sound of music, but these three Hebrew men never went back from worshipping the only true God. When they were reported to the King for being disobedient despite being in a strange land, they were not afraid of their faith. Even when death by throwing into a fiery furnace was the penalty for their disobedience, they were confident in the supremacy of God and not afraid to lose their life. As Christians, there are times we encounter evil, but rather than succumb like everyone else around us, we should be strong and exhibit our faith by challenging the situation. Don’t succumb to the weight of it all but find hope in the peace God has to offer you. In this article, 5 lessons will be highlighted from the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego which we can apply to our own faith.
- WILLINGNESS TO STICK TO THEIR BELIEF: Daniel 1:11-12
Even though they were in a strange land where no one can see them, instruct them, or monitor them, their hearts were right with God. They were not men-pleasers or doing eye-service. They know their God and they were not willing to eat food given to idols to be chosen. They know the commandments of God and didn’t depart from them. They were true ambassadors of Christ even in an idol worshipping territory. As Christians, no matter where we find ourselves, we should endeavor to always stand for God. One with God is the majority, don’t follow the crowd to participate in evil doings. Let people around you know the God you are serving. Your life must be a channel to draw people unto God. Don’t be men-pleasers and don’t live a fake life too.
- BELIEVE IN GOD’S SUPREMACY: Romans 4:20-21, Daniel 3:1-30
Just like Abraham firm faith in God, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3, believed in the supremacy of God and never even thought of bowing down to Nebuchadnezzar’s statue. No punishment, no threats, no consequences could make them betray God or reject him. They were fully persuaded of the promises of God and in their obedience to him. There is nothing God cannot do for you as a true believer in his supremacy, he doesn’t slack in his promises to his children. Things might seems so rough that you are thinking of seeking help from the adversary or places you are not meant to be found as a child of God, don’t go that way but rise up with the attitude of these Hebrew men where you are fully persuaded that God can do all things and he is not a man that should lie or the son of man that should repent of his promises. Our God is a God that honors his words much more than his name.
- STAND IN FAITH AND TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD
When King Nebuchadnezzar ordered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be brought to him, he gave them the last chance to bow to the golden statue testing their characters, but they stood firm in their faith and in the truth of God’s word. They even audaciously claimed God could deliver them from the furnace but even if he didn’t, they wouldn’t worship the idol. This tells us as Christians that God’s rewards aren’t always claimed in this life alone, it is a promise of blissful eternity. We should stand by our word which is God’s expectation from us as Jesus consistently taught us. The Hebrew men’s integrity was based on the word and character of God, rather than elevate themselves, they elevated the name of God where they are.
- BE GOD’S AMBASSADOR: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
From the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, as Christians, we can never bring the world to Christ by becoming like it, but we should reveal to the world a higher power, a greater purpose, and a superior morality than the world we live in. We are to represent God well wherever we are. Whether we are experiencing pain, persecution, illness, we should live in the hope that there is life after death. We should not abandon God and worship idols because of any situation we found ourselves in, but we should develop strong faith such as has been seen in numerable times throughout the centuries by believers who have suffered martyrdom for the Lord. Don’t be afraid to lose your life for the sake of the gospel of Christ no matter what.
- PROMOTION IN ALL AREAS: Daniel 3:30
When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego exited the fire, they received a promotion from the King. No matter the temptation or trial in a believer’s life, there is always a promotion, it could be spiritually since fire always refines or physical promotion. Others will recognize the goodness of God through your faith too.
CONCLUSION
The ultimate thing as a believer of God is believing in the God you are serving, believe in his promises and remember that when the pressure increases, you will receive protection and ultimate promotion. God doesn’t leave his own to suffer long, there will always be a way of excuse. Don’t give up, your miracle is in the fire. The miracle of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is a miracle for you too.
